First female Head of State of Africa Ruth Sando Perry
1939- Chairwoman of the Council of State of Liberia 1996-1997 She is known as being the first female Head of State of Africa, as well the first female President of Liberia. “As a mother, I consider the children and their future my biggest priority” – she said. Well, she had 7 children. Her important mission was to protect and promote the rights of children in Africa. Ruth Sando Perry was a lecturer at the University of Liberia, and later she worked in a Bank in Monrovia. In 1985 Perry won a seat in the Liberian Senate. In 1996 she was elected for the Head of State of Liberia. In 2004 I wrote a letter to her asking for her signed photograph. I was surprised to receive a letter from one of her family member telling me Ruth Sando Perry got a stroke. I did not hear about her being sick before.
Four years later I tried to contact her again hoping she was feeling better. I enclosed two pictures of her for signing. I was happy to receive her letter and I appreciated her personal handwritten answer. It was so nice of the sick Lady to write in person which must have been a hard work for her. It is not too easy to read her handwriting but I think it is something great!
