Hunting on F1 autographs during the Bavaria City Racing Rotterdam

by Peter Kanger

On sunday August 17th more than 500.000 visitors came to the Bavaria City Racing event in Rotterdam (The Netherlands). For the 4th time most of the streets in Rotterdam were closed for the demonstrations of the F1, GP2, A1 and cars of many other series. As usual several F1 drivers showed up and this year Giancarlo Fisichella, Adrian Sutil, Jarno Trulli, Sakon Yamamoto and of course local heroes Robert Doornbos and Carlo van Dam (F3) were the top attractions.

I was lucky that I could block a 10 minutes interview with Giancarlo Fisichella for the websites which I provide with F1 news and also for a local tv station. The interview with Fisichella was very pleasant and interesting and as collector of F1 autographs I was able to ask Fisichella to sign several photos after the interview. As insiders know this left handed driver has many different kinds autographs and once again I had to find out that nothing changed. Of the five photos which he signed 3 were completly different. With and without his initial (the letter “G”) and many other differences. He signed without any rush so it was very surprising. More information about his autographs you can find on www.isitreal.com (under sports) but don’t think that you will find the kind of autographs he signed for me.

Jarno Trulli autograph however is almost the same very time when you ask him to sign which he proved also during this sunday. This driver was not running away for his fans and signed many photos, caps T-shirts etc.

Sakon Yamamoto the Japanese F1 driver is only signing in Japanese characters whenever you ask him to do so. When you don’t ask him to do so than he is signing in alphabetic characters which seems to be rather difficult for him. The first letter (“Y”) is always the same but the rest is very often different. But he is friendly and has always time for his fans, which is also important

But as we say in The Netherlands: You are never too old to learn so.......... we learned again a lot during this event. One of the things we learned was: Fisichella will never learn it ....... he drives/makes the autograph collectors crazy.

Are you also a collector of F1 autographs than you are always welcome to contact me for exchanging autographs or other important information.
